Guest Speaker Pastor Al Toledo

In this message, guest Pastor Al Toledo shares the heart of God to do more in our lives, that we are made in His image and God desires greatly to grow us up in Him!

Sermon Notes can be found on the James River Church website at the above link.

Prayer after the sermon was powerful. God moved in a mighty way.

Mark 2:18–22 (NKJV)
18 The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, “Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” 19 And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. 20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days. 21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. 22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”

My notes:

Two Works
James River Church  - visiting Pastor Al Toledo

  1. God wants to do more.

  2. God wants to take us all deeper in Him.

To do so, He has to work in us, we pray, “Work in me, Lord”. God wants to do a work in us, individually, not just as a whole.

It takes two works - #1 The work that makes us flexible again #2 The work that makes us full again

#1 The work that makes us flexible again

Mark 2:18-22 Mark 2:18–22 (NKJV)

Mark 2:18–22 (GNT)

18 On one occasion the followers of John the Baptist and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came to Jesus and asked him, “Why is it that the disciples of John the Baptist and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but yours do not?” 19 Jesus answered, “Do you expect the guests at a wedding party to go without food? Of course not! As long as the bridegroom is with them, they will not do that. 20 But the day will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast. 21 “No one uses a piece of new cloth to patch up an old coat, because the new patch will shrink and tear off some of the old cloth, making an even bigger hole. 22 Nor does anyone pour new wine into used wineskins, because the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the skins will be ruined. Instead, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.”

  • Whenever God is going to do a new work, just know, the new work God wants to do will pull at you. You will sense a tearing inside of you. It pulls at the old. Get ready for this internal work.

Flexible like a new wine skin. Re-shaped by God all over again.

Any time God wants to change us, it’s always on the other side of flexibility.

Flexibility = Sensitivity

Inflexibility = Insensitivity

Before God pours in the new wine, we must be a flexible wineskin.

Spiritual rigidity always precedes mental and emotional rigidity.

If spiritually rigid, they become mentally & emotionally rigid.

If flexible spiritually they become flexible mentally and emotionally.

Sometimes God wants to change us but we aren’t ready, we’re not flexible.

Don’t approach God with your resume, remember God has done everything for us and through us. Instead, thank Him for all He has done and tell Him you’re ready for all He has for you, and transformation in all areas of your life.

Two faces to truth

  1. You will know the truth, the word of reality. Jesus told the woman at the well about her husbands. Reality comes before release and transformation.

  2. and it will set you free, word of release. Once you accept what God said to you because you are flexible, then comes the word of release. God tells Gideon to get up out of the hole. Get up mighty warriors! Get up out of the pit, depression, etc.

Flexibility leads to word of reality and word of release.

Lord keep us flexible, tender, every heart soft

How much could be changed if we say Lord have your way.

#2 The work that makes us full again

He fills us again, refreshes us. God fills for the fulfillment of His purpose.

God fills us so we can fulfill the call of God on our life.

Flexibility and purpose say whatever you want Lord, whenever you want.

God fill me!

Start the year by saying, “God I’m flexible and ready to be filled”.
